What started as a fitting memorial service for the man whose company offered a final sense of dignity to those who had passed away quickly turned into something straight out of a soap opera Sunday when the late Lebogang Khitsane’s sister decided to use his funeral address to denigrate his wife.
South Africans were shocked as violence and chaos erupted on eNCA’s live broadcast of the memorial service when his sister, Semati Moedi, took the stage to accuse his wife of causing him pain while he was still alive by having an extramarital affair.
“Lebogang was suffering, it turns out that his wife had brought a man into the house …” Moedi said before a bottle of water came flying towards her in an attempt to silence her.
Khitsane’s visibly angry daughter, Tswelelopele, can be seen attacking her aunt, yelling “that’s it” before Kaya FM DJ Thabo “Tbose” Mokwele steps in to end the fight and take the microphone from Moedi.
The events provoked a dual debate among South Africans; one on whether or not eNCA was wrong in spreading such “unworthy behavior” and another on whether or not Moedi was wrong in airing the family’s dirty laundry while his brother’s friends, family and business associates had gathered to mourn him.
Would you defend your mother if your aunt called her a whore at your father’s memorial?

I think we must be consistent with our censorship. When Thandi Ndlovu’s sisters made the big reveal about the abuse she suffered in their marriage, there was no conviction. When #Rakgadi does the same thing that they are dragging her?

This Rakgadi woman is off duty, she disrespected her dead brother so much ???? Her brother’s marriage had nothing to do with her no matter what happened. Arg women don’t love each other? pic.twitter.com/8VHGSKyY9G

The daughter saying “That’s it!” it means this fight IS going on, from the day of her passing at least. Rakgadi has been whylin.

These types of rakgadi are meant to destroy. They don’t give a damn about children. Even if mom was cheating, her children lost a parent and are suffering. That moment did not redeem her brother. And she’s not going to get shit anyway !! https://t.co/CzSN3Tg3Km

If the brother had brought sides to the house, would Rakgadi have had the same energy on such a day?
Can some in-laws be toxic ???? pic.twitter.com/lDwMp2giq8

I’m not saying the wife didn’t cheat, but rakgadi should have called a family reunion and discussed this … she is saying all this in front of the nation and the most disgusting thing in front of her brother’s children … Yoh ha. to wtf

Lebogang Khitsane made his name and fortune after founding the Bataung Legacy Tombstones, a company that became famous in Africa for its unique and exaggerated tombstone designs.
Bataung Legacy Headstones designed headstones for famous faces like Joe Mafela, Mandoza, boxer Baby Jake Matlala, announcer Vuyo Mbuli, musician Robbie Malinga, and kwaito star Senyaka, to name a few.
Khitsane died Thursday of kidney failure and will be laid to rest later this week.
