South African motorists will pay 1 c / l more for both grades of gasoline starting Wednesday morning, while diesel will drop 21 c / l.
This comes after the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy announced its monthly fuel price adjustments for September on Monday.
They are as follows:
- Gasoline (both 93 ULP and LRP): increase of 1.00 c / l;
- Gasoline (both 95 ULP and LRP): increase of 1.00 c / l;
- Diesel (0.05% sulfur): decrease of 21.00 c / l;
- Diesel (0.005% sulfur): decrease of 21.00 c / l;
- Illuminating Paraffin (wholesale): decrease of 26.00 c / l;
- Maximum Single National Retail Price of Illuminating Paraffin: 35.00 c / l decrease;
- Maximum Retail Price of LP Gas: 36.00 c / kg of increase; and
Among the reasons for the adjustments is a 5.3 cents per liter increase in the retail margin for all gasoline grades to accommodate annual salary increases for forecourt staff.
Mineral Resources and Energy Minister Gwede Mantashe said additional reasons for the price increase include a weaker rand-dollar exchange rate and a slight rebound in the average price of the benchmark Brent crude price.
“This was primarily due to concerns that hurricanes could lead to the closure of some of the production facilities on the southern coast of the United States of America,” the department said.
This was offset by a decrease in the average prices of refined petroleum products, which resulted in an increase of 1 c / l for gasoline and a decrease of 21 c / l for diesel.
