“This is what we want to see as a community: weekly updates on the progress of the cases, updates on the actions taken against the other two members who were on the scene and an investigation into alleged corruption among police officers,” said one of the leaders community.
The 16-year-old, who suffered from Down syndrome, was shot in the area Wednesday night and later died in hospital.
Police claimed Julies was shot during a crossfire between rival gangs, but residents and the teenager’s family claimed the police shot her.
During Sunday’s march, angry residents signed a petition that would be sent to Ipid, the National Fiscal Authority (NPA) and the police.
Two policemen were arrested on Friday after a preliminary investigation by the police watchdog. The officers were expected to be charged with murder, a possible charge of thwarting the ends of justice and possession of prohibited ammunition.
They were expected to appear in Protea Magistrates Court on Monday.
