Jose Mourinho You think you can become a better manager with age.

The Portuguese has spent most of his 20 years at the top of the game in a brilliant coaching career that has seen him win a plethora of trophies in every job he’s had.

But he has faced accusations that his star is waning in recent years and, at 57, the Tottenham manager could be considered to be in the twilight of his career.

However, Mourinho believes he is still young enough to be among the best coaches in the game.

“First of all, because I’m so young,” he said when asked how he stays motivated. “People think I’m very old because I’ve been at this level since 2002.

“I am not very old. I am very young for a soccer coach. It is the kind of job where you get better with experience and you don’t get worse.

“I am no longer impulsive. I have more control of my emotions. I think better, decide better. I think that a coach, the older you get, there is an accumulation of experience.”

“You are not a player. You don’t need your body to work the same way. You need your brain to be better. I don’t need to run. I don’t need to jump. I don’t need to run for 90 minutes. I need to think. So a coach gets better and better until the motivation wears off. “

Mourinho provided fascinating insight into his methods during Amazon Prime Video’s All or Nothing documentary about Tottenham, with the first three episodes released on Monday.

He claims that viewers will see the “real José” and not the “madman” who appeared in the leaked clips after he became the protagonist of the nine-part series when he replaced Mauricio Pochettino in November.

It turned out to be a perfect date for the producers, who have admitted pinching themselves when he arrived at the club.

In the run-up to the documentary’s release, clips surfaced online of a team meeting in which Mourinho accused his players of being overly nice, delivered with a host of expletives.

But the series also shows a softer side to him, as he relates to his players on an individual basis and at the same time gives them rewards and praise.

Mourinho says that what is shown was completely real.

“If people just watch the video that was leaked, people will think I’m crazy,” he said. “I don’t know, but they will see the real José.

“As I said before, nothing is false. Many people will have a perception about me and now they can confirm if the perception is correct.

“If they misjudge me and analyze me from another perspective, I really don’t know. The only thing I know is that I am that and what they see is what I am as a football coach in my football, day by day.”

Following his appointment to Spurs, Mourinho regularly mentioned the presence of cameras, giving the impression that he was not happy with the situation.

Although he admits there were times when he felt “strange” after the camera captured an intimate moment, he says he learned to live with it.

“Sometimes I forget! I think the beauty of the filmmaker’s work is that nothing is false,” he said.

“People didn’t change their behavior because the cameras were there or because they were thinking about the cameras all the time.

“If it was someone who looks from the outside, what would attract me to the series would be how genuine and real it is.

“You can only be real if the actors, let’s say we are all, don’t think about it. We just make our lives.

“Basically most of the time I forgot that the cameras were there or tried to ignore them, because to do my job correctly I can’t check if the cameras are there.

“Sometimes I felt like it was quite strange afterwards. Sometimes after a certain meeting, reaction, words or approach, you feel like, ‘This is part of my intimacy. This is something that I don’t want people to understand. people know so much within the privacy of my work. ‘

“But in the end we learned to live with it and it was fine.

“The dressing room is like a temple. We used to say that what happens inside stays inside.

“So imagining that people could see a part-time team speak, along with all the good, bad and crazy times, it’s great.

“We’re giving people access to all the things you can’t normally show. And I can promise you because I know it was all real in this case. Nothing was set up. It was all just us.”
