“The whale appears to have been in a collision with a ship,” its spokesman Craig Lambinon said Sunday.
On Saturday, NSRI was asked to assist the Marine Animal Stranding Network and the Saldanha Bay Municipality in moving the whale carcass to Dial Rock Beach.
A sea rescue vessel was launched and a tow cable was installed on the body.
Lambinon said the body was later towed to the beach.
“An attempt to tow the whale out to sea later on Saturday was called off and the carcass will be removed from the land side by solid waste management.”
