Another 15 people have been arrested in connection with an alleged R56 million police vehicle brand scam.
Nine of them are former police officers or on duty and the remaining six are vendors or associated vendors.
A 16th suspect is at large, national police spokesman Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo said Sunday.
“The defendants were arrested between 09:30 hours [Friday and 13:30 on Saturday]. The arrests are the result of an integrated team, made up of members of the national commissioner’s task force and the NPA’s Directorate of Investigation under attorney Hermione Cronje, “he said.
The latest arrests bring to 30 the number of defendants detained in the case.
This after 15 defendants, including a retired police general, senior and junior officers and vendors, were arrested in June.
Those arrested over the weekend are expected to appear in Pretoria Magistrates Court on Monday on charges of fraud, corruption, money laundering and theft.
Thereafter, they are expected to appear in court on September 29 along with those who were initially detained.
