Meghan Markle’s time as royalty had certainly been quite turbulent as the former actor faced a number of challenges.
However, when the Duchess of Sussex said goodbye to her brief royal life, she delivered a moving and emotional speech for her staff before returning to Canada after her final royal engagement.
Among the guests at Meghan’s final engagement was Omid Scobie, who co-authored the recently released explosive biography of the Sussex couple. Find freedom. The private meeting was held between the Duchess and the Commonwealth University Scholars Association.
Meghan had discussed climate change with the students in her closing speech, but she also used it as a way to say her parting words to the royal family as she became overwhelmed with emotions.
Scobie claimed that Meghan had hugged him while uttering seven painful words to the royal family: “It didn’t have to be this way.”
Scobie wrote: “The staff who had been with the couple from day one were mourning the end of what was supposed to be a happy story: two people fall in love, get married, have a baby, serve the queen, the end. Instead, they were leaving the country. When Meghan gave me one last hug goodbye, she said, ‘It didn’t have to be this way.
Meghan was said to be devastated by how things unfolded as she embarked on the next chapter of her life, severing ties with royalty.
Scobie had later written for harper’s bazaar, saying that “the tears the Duchess had been bravely holding [were] free to flow between familiar faces. “
“The Duchess of Sussex emotionally [bid] farewell to his beloved assistants, with his flight ‘home’ to Canada that will leave in a matter of hours. “
“Meghan would fly back to Canada on the last commercial flight of the day, anxious to be back on Vancouver Island in the morning before Archie wakes up,” she added.
