What the heck ?: Free State businessman arrested with R270K for alleged stolen chicken

A 32-year-old Free State businessman was arrested after he was allegedly caught in possession of a stolen chicken worth approximately R270,000.

The chicken is suspected to have been stolen from a truck that was hijacked while transporting frozen chicken worth an estimated R270,000.

“Investigation into serious organized crime [unit] received information Thursday of alleged stolen property that was hidden in a notorious butcher shop, allegedly [been] stolen from a hijacked Lesotho truck, “said police spokeswoman Petty Officer Lynda Steyn.

The hijacked truck, worth around R450,000, was also recovered near the N8 and Verkeerdevlei Road.

“All recovered items were turned over to legal owners who traveled from Lesotho. The suspect will appear in Botshabelo Magistrates Court on Monday. Investigations are still continuing,” Steyn said.
