Covid-19 update: SA registers 2,418 new cases and 238 deaths

The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in South Africa as of Saturday is 622,551, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize announced.
The country has also recorded 238 more deaths: 81 from KwaZulu-Natal, 47 from Gauteng, 6 from the Eastern Cape, 9 from the Western Cape and 123 from the Free State. This brings the total number of deaths to 13,981.
ANC NEC: Cyril Ramaphosa offers to report to integrity committee

In a move that apparently disarmed his loudest opponents, President Cyril Ramaphosa told the ANC’s national executive committee (NEC) that he had approached the integrity committee to explain his CR17 campaign.
Ramaphosa preemptively approached the integrity committee last week asking them for an opportunity to explain his controversial campaign which received more than R400 million in donations.

More and more senior members of the ANC are coming forward to demand that the party’s chairman, Cyril Ramaphosa, step aside.
This as the party’s national executive committee meets this weekend as the shadow of Covid-19-related corruption hangs over its head.
The mayor of Ekurhuleni, Mzwandile Masina, was the last to call for Ramaphosa’s resignation, but did not say what charges Ramaphosa should face.
Action SA’s Mashaba takes a tough stance on corruption and illegal immigration

The leader of South Africa’s newest political party, Herman Mashaba of Action SA, has promised to ban Zimbabwean leaders belonging to the ruling Zanu-PF party from entering South Africa and freezing their assets in the country.
While he was adamant on illegal immigration, Mashaba said that the people of Zimbabwe should not be punished for what is happening in their country.
Local celebrities pay tribute to ‘Black Panther’ actor Chadwick Boseman

As a surprise at the news that actor Chadwick Boseman still leaks around the world, South African celebrities have also paid tribute to the Black Panther star.
Boseman’s passing was announced in a family statement Saturday morning, he had lost his four-year battle with stage 3 colon cancer.

The Orlando Pirates finally scored a post-lockdown victory on Saturday, in large part thanks to Wayne Sandilands, who saved two penalties to knock down SuperSport United in a 2-1 win at Ellis Park.
