The loss to Sundowns means the Chiefs have lost a 13-point lead they enjoyed in December and the two teams are tied on points with three games remaining for the season.
“It’s a disappointment, heads are down and it’s definitely to be expected. We now have three days before our game against Bidvest Wits on Sunday, ”Middendorp said afterward.
“We have to refresh ourselves and try to find the combination. It’s just that some players right now can’t wait 90 minutes.
“It is our duty that Samir Nurkovic is back and that is definitely something we are looking forward to. This is something where you have two scorers ‚ [who] really put the power in the final third ‚not available.
“We have to find a solution, but the good news is that Samir will definitely be available during the weekend and then he will return.”
In their remaining games, the Chiefs will face Wits, Chippa United and Baroka FC, where they will seek nine points against highly unpredictable opponents.
“There are three games to go and of course this is a disappointing result against Sundowns,” Middendorp said.
“But you have seen in the second half that we were running 45 minutes in half of the opponents but we couldn’t open them. I’m more concerned about the first 20 minutes of the game, where we had two great chances against the goalkeeper but we didn’t take advantage of them.
“In the first half we talked about long balls and I think you saw long balls on top of the Sundowns defense line consistently. In the second half, it’s always difficult for the defense line, but we fix it.
“There were two or three occasions where we had long range shots at the start of the game.”
