The students sold their PSL status and will not exist beyond the current season as they are relocated and renamed.
Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhadila (TTM) owner Masala Mulaudzi may have to give some explanations to the PSL executive committee after declaring himself the one who bought Bidvest Wits status in the media.
Addressing the media on Friday, PSL president Dr. Irvin Khoza confirmed, without disclosing the names of the club or owner, that a trust and not an individual purchased high-level status.
And his comments have cast doubt on the deal involving Mulaudzi and the Students, as questions have now arisen as to whether he is the sole owner of Wits or not.
“About Tshakhuma, what I know is that there is a trust that bought a club that they brought us for consideration,” Khoza told the media.
So, that trust was the one that made a request for the acquisition of a new status in the Premier Division ”.
Khoza made it clear that according to the rules, Mulaudzi would be prohibited from acquiring interests in another club for at least 12 months, as he was already involved in professional football with TTM before reiterating that Wits was bought by a trust.
“Let me explain this to you, in terms of the PSL rules, no member of a club this season can acquire shares directly or indirectly from another club in a 12-month period,” Khoza added.
“That’s why I say I want him to be technical, but be honest in what we are represented as an executive committee.”
“In this, we are making it clear that it was a trust that came and made a request to us.”
Khoza warned that Mulaudzi must explain himself and confirm or not whether or not he is the mastermind behind the Students’ purchase.
“If it is Mr. Mulaudzi, it must be explained because I cannot vouch for that,” Khoza concluded.
The sale of TTM-Wits was tentatively approved by PSL’s executive committee and it remains to be seen whether or not the league will reverse its decision at the end of the season.
If the league clears the sale, Wits will move to Limpopo and be renamed TTM before the 2020-21 season.
