Cape Town – Wilderness Search And Rescue (WSAR) said the man’s body found in the Helderberg Nature Reserve will be downed on Sunday.
The body of the 58-year-old man was discovered in the reserve during the early hours of Friday and was expected to be brought down from the mountain today, but due to weather conditions they will do so on Sunday.
WSAR spokesman Johann Marais said: “It is planned to bring (the) body on Sunday morning if time permits.”
According to the South African Meteorological Service, heavy rains, leading to localized flooding, are expected in the southwestern areas of the Western Cape through Saturday afternoon.
A gale force west victory (62-70 km / h) is expected between Stillbaai and Plettenberg Bay, and disruptive snowfall is expected in locations over the upper areas of the Western Cape.
WSAR previously said that around 5 p.m. Thursday, Helderberg Reserve manager requested their help, after a 58-year-old man’s wife reported it belatedly.
“The man had set out to do the Sugarbird route and did not return at 4:00 pm as he had agreed with his wife. By then, the rangers had already patrolled the route, “said WSAR.
WSAR had more than 17 operatives in the field on foot and, when possible, by 4×4 searching for the man until early Thursday night.
