The call was reportedly made at a meeting of the national working committee on Friday before the NEC meeting, the sources said.
In addition to being unhappy with Ramaphosa’s letter, Yengeni said the president should lead by example and resign because he was accused of vote buying at the Nasrec conference.
Ramaphosa wrote a letter to ANC members over the weekend and spoke out against corruption.
In his letter, Ramaphosa said that corruption was one of the issues to be tackled head-on and that it had caused the most outrage and that there were companies and individuals from the private sector, including public officials, who had taken advantage of a serious medical and social situation. On Friday, Zuma responded to Ramaphosa’s letter with his own unrestricted letter in which he said that Ramaphosa’s letter had betrayed a lack of understanding of how ANC leaders should communicate with their structures.
Reprimanding Ramaphosa further for his letter, Zuma said it was “absolutely unjustified” for Ramaphosa to attribute to the entire ANC and its ordinary members the misconduct of some people who had access to state power and its resources, as well as leadership positions of the state. ANC.
He added that by claiming that the ANC was ranked as “Defendant No. 1” with respect to the corruption charge, Ramaphosa implicated thousands of innocent ANC members who continued to face hunger and dehumanizing poverty and had never profited from corruption. .
“You go on to say that the ANC should bury its head in shame. Mr President, this statement that you make is not helpful to the ANC, in my respectful opinion.
“For all intents and purposes, it can only serve to destroy the ANC, particularly if the head of the ANC pleads guilty on behalf of the ANC and calls the ANC Defendant Number 1.
“His actions are unprecedented in this regard. Mr. President, you are in fact the first president of the ANC to come forward in public and accuse the ANC of criminality and that the ANC should be defendant Number 1 as accusations of corruption increase, ”Zuma said.
