A 24-year-old man who had called his relative, saying he had been shot, was one of two people who were later found dead on a Witbank farm, Mpumalanga police said Thursday.

The bodies were discovered Tuesday, Brigadier General Leonard Hlathi said.

“According to the report, the police received information early in the morning from a concerned family member who informed them that his brother called him alleging that he had been shot and was hiding in the woods on a nearby farm,” Hlathi said.

“The police immediately took care of the matter and went out and looked for it, without any success.

“Then they called up the K9 Unit, which continued with the search, where they later discovered the body of Emmanuel Mashengwane and that of the second victim, stacked one on top of the other, with bullet wounds, in said farm. Later, the police summoned paramedics who certified both dead victims at the scene, “added Hlathi.

It was not immediately clear if the victims knew each other. Hlathi said two murder cases had been opened.

Provincial Police Commissioner Lt. Gen. Mondli Zuma said: “No one has the right to take someone’s life, those responsible for this cruel act will face the full power of the law.”
