While social media users have had a field day questioning each item on the long list that includes pillows and hair accessories, it seems that Minister Ebrahim Patel did not have the enormous task of choosing which items made up the list by itself.

JOHANNESBURG – As South Africans continue to analyze new guidelines on the sale of winter clothing, footwear and bedding, the Department of Commerce and Industry has emphasized that the items were compiled after extensive consultation.
The list, which has raised its eyebrows, includes overalls, shorts, and golf shirts.
• All winter clothing and essentials you can buy during level 4
The department said a team of industry representatives and department officials worked together to develop the list of essential winter clothing and other supplies that could now be sold.
While social media users have had a field day questioning each item on the long list that includes pillows and hair accessories, it seems that Minister Ebrahim Patel did not have the enormous task of choosing which items made up the list by itself.
The department said industry stakeholders asked Patel to publish the list of clothing and other products.
The sale of clothing was not allowed during level five of the national closing, with the modification as a result of the downgrade to level 4.
The Clothing Industry Negotiating Council has welcomed the directive, endorsing the minister’s statement that the list was developed by senior retailers and manufacturing stakeholders.
The council also praised the number of jobs to be created through the broader list, saying it was a good step in getting the entire industry back to work at level 3.
