Tygerberg Hospital in Cape Town said Tuesday that it followed provincial health guidelines for decontamination after a cleaner allegedly claimed they were told to use chlorine to disinfect a room where a nurse worked, who recently died of Covid-19.

She is the second nurse to die of Covid-19 in the province after Petronella Benjamin succumbed a day before she allegedly retired.
Tygerberg Hospital spokeswoman Laticia Pienaar said the room had been decontaminated on Friday, followed by cleaning the terminal over the weekend.
“An outside contractor was hired to decontaminate the room,” he said.
