Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula mourned the deaths of seven people in a major accident on the N2 near Inanda Road in Durban on Tuesday morning.
According to KwaZulu-Natal Emergency Medical Services spokesman Robert McKenzie, eight people were traveling in a light motor vehicle when the accident occurred around 06:00.
“There has been a serious and tragic accident. Paramedics are still on the scene and treated a person for serious injury,” said McKenzie.
No other vehicle was involved in the accident.
“Somehow, a single vehicle lost control and rolled over to the side.”

McKenzie said multiple ambulance services arrived on the scene to find the eight people trapped inside the wreckage.
They were removed with the jaws of life, but only one person survived the accident and was rushed to the hospital.
Mbalula said the vehicle was “very overloaded”.
“The vehicle was carrying eight passengers at the time; seven occupants died on the scene and one person suffered serious injuries. Investigations are underway into the cause of the accident.”
Mbalula sent his condolences to the afflicted and has wished that the wounded recover fully.
