An unknown suspect who broke into a house in Port Elizabeth on Saturday is wanted for murder after the elderly homeowner succumbed to his injuries.

Spokeswoman Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the incident occurred on Maasdorp Street in Rowallan Park just before 11 a.m., where the suspect entered through an open back door.

He confronted Martha Snyman, 83, in the hallway where an altercation occurred.

Snyman’s head was pushed against the wall and she collapsed on the floor where she later died.

Colonel Naidu says the suspect went to the living room where he confronted husband of 76 years, David Snyman.

The thief stole two cell phones and cash before fleeing the scene.

Naidu says that Ms. Snyman died at the scene and that her husband was treated for minor head injuries.

A house murder and burglary case is under investigation.

Naidu says the suspect had a dark complexion with an afro hairstyle and was wearing dark green pants.
