Designer Ferris Rafauli has a meticulous eye for detail. Pay as much attention to the color of the door knob as to the quality of the materials used in a limestone and in the Nero Marquina marble entrance hall. There is no doubt why he is one of the most beloved interior designers in the world today; The work he did designing the flamboyant Drake Toronto mansion simply affirmed what most of the industry already knew.
“I do all the architecture, the interior designs, my own furniture collections and the landscape,” Rafauli told Business Insider. “I see things holistically, as a perfect vision, from start to finish.”
For Drake’s mansion specifically, Rafauli told Architectural Digest’s Mayer Rus that he was inspired by the Beaux-Arts architectural style and sought a contemporary version of the Art Deco movement. Examples of its careful details included placing a 20,000-piece Swarovski crystal chandelier in the great room and hanging a glass chandelier in the hall from a backlit ceiling with panels wrapped in synthetic suede from Alcantara, a material commonly used in luxury automobiles. and sports.
Rus even described Drake’s headboard (not included in the Grand Vividus but also designed by the rapper for Rafauli) as “accented with antique mirror and channel-streaked leather” with a whiskey and champagne bar to the rear . Rafauli described his association with Hastens as an “organic” development, while Linus Adolfsson, founder of The Hastens Sleep Spa LA + New York, called it a game changer.
“Grand Vividus changed the symbolism of what the word ‘mattress’ means,” Adolfsson told Business Insider. “If your favorite object in your life is not your mattress, you are not sleeping on the correct mattress.”
