A total of 24 staff members at the Dis-Chem branch in Retail Park in Boksburg have tested positive for Covid-19 at the close of business on Friday, the pharmacy group confirmed.
“All of this has no symptoms,” Lizeth Kruger, manager of Dis-Chem’s national clinic, said after testing 132 employees.
According to Kruger, the first positive diagnosis was made on Thursday, April 9, after which the protocol of the health department was followed, which requires that all close contacts be placed in isolation and evaluated.
“The store was professionally cleaned. Additionally, he took the precaution of testing all staff and anyone with symptoms was immediately isolated.
“Three additional staff members, both asymptomatic, then tested positive and were immediately quarantined according to Health Department protocol.”
They were all retested on Thursday, and 20 other asymptomatic employees tested positive, which Kruger said “highlights the aggressive virulence of this virus.”

Repeating the test was not a departmental requirement, but rather a step taken by the company as an additional precaution, he said.
“As an essential service provider for a large percentage of the Boksburg community, the store was reopened … on Friday with an entirely new staff complement after further professional cleaning,” said Kruger.
According to her, the branch remained open as it provided an essential service to those who trusted it to obtain medications.
“All staffing has been self-insulated and the store has been rehired with employees from other Dis-Chem stores. The store has been thoroughly cleaned.”
