Mediclinic clinical director Dr. Stefan Smuts said more than 100 potential contacts were tested after one of his staff was found to be infected, adding that the 12 employees were currently in isolation.

This occurs after Netcare St Augustine Hospital in KwaZulu-Natal was closed to all new patients after an outbreak that saw 47 staff members test positive for the virus. Five died of coronavirus at the private facility, KwaZulu-Natal Health MEC Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu said, according to City Press.
Netcare had said that 33 of the 47 infected employees were isolating themselves, while the remaining 14 were being “housed” at Netcare facilities “to ensure they can safely self-quarantine.”
Process
At Mediclinic, Smuts said the group is trying to identify all potentially exposed staff, doctors and patients. He said the hospital has “established procedures related to staff exposure, risk, and testing.”
He said the hospital will disinfect areas considered to be at risk and has implemented an access control policy, which will also affect emergency revenue.
“We have implemented human resources policies and procedures to address exposure, testing and infection of health workers, including the appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with the NICD and the WHO, and we recently published the guidelines of the National Department of Prevention and Control of Health Infections, and As such, all personnel have received the appropriate PPE, “he said.
On Tuesday, the national health department has confirmed 2,415 cases across the country, an increase of 143 compared to the previous day.
