Durban: The number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in South Africa increased to 2,173.

On Sunday, the Ministry of Health confirmed that the number had increased by 145 from previous figures.

“The total number of tests carried out to date is 80 085. We are also seeing an increase in tests carried out in public laboratories. Of the 5,032 tests carried out in the last day, 3,192 were carried out in public laboratories,” said the Minister. of National Health, Dr. Zweli Mkhize said.

Gauteng remains the province with the most confirmed cases with 865, while the Western Cape has 587 cases and KwaZulu-Natal has 443 registered cases. .

On Saturday, the ministry announced that the number of people who died from coronavirus was 25.

He said the last case was a 61-year-old man from the Western Cape. According to Mkhize, he had underlying medical conditions, such as diabetes, hypertension, and obesity.

Globally, more than 1.8 million people have tested positive for Covid-19. The death toll stands at 112,447 and a total of 416,154 people have recovered.
