The news came when Netcare said it was investigating a Covid-19 outbreak at St. Augustine Hospital in KwaZulu-Natal, where four people died and 47 staff members tested positive.

He added that measures have been implemented to contain the outbreak. In a statement Wednesday, Netcare CEO Richard Friedland said that 33 of the 47 employees isolated themselves and that the remaining 14 were housed at Netcare facilities “to ensure they can safely self-quarantine.”

Meanwhile, a Shoprite store in Bothasig, Cape Town, closed on Tuesday after a staff member tested positive.

South Africa is still under closure with limited movements to essential services and travel for food, medical supplies and social grants.
