The 40-year-old man, who asked not to be identified, says he was scared when police returned two weeks after reporting them and stole another stash of cigarettes and cash.
The man, who has run a store on Hanover Park Avenue for 16 years, says that on April 13, the AGU broke into his store and demanded that he open the closed doors.
“I was in the store and they told me to open it,” he says.
“They asked me questions and when I tried to answer them they hit me and now I have trouble hearing in my left ear.
“They went to the warehouse and took all the cigarettes I kept because we are not allowed to sell.”
He says the stash of cigarettes is worth thousands and the store lost revenue that week as it also took cash.
The confused businessman says he tried to question the officers, but instead they slapped his store clerk and took cash before leaving.
He says the incident was captured on CCTV cameras.
“I was a captain and every time I tried to answer they yelled at me to shut up,” says the store owner.
“They had no court order or document to register my store. I went to Philippi and made a statement.
“They took Stuyvesant, Marlboro and other cigarettes and a lot of money.
“I couldn’t understand why they took it because it wasn’t selling. They never arrested me.
“I went and reported them because something like that has never happened to me in all the years I’ve been in Hanover Park.”
Police spokesman Colonel Andrè Traut confirms that a case of assault and malicious damage to property was reported: “Circumstances are under investigation and no one has yet been arrested.”
Meanwhile, the Independent Police Investigation Directorate was unable to confirm whether they received the file.
The owner says no investigator has come to see him, but on Thursday, the same officers returned and stole it again.
“They entered and the first thing they did was cut the cameras and erase all the images that showed that they entered,” he says.
“But they don’t know that the first robbery has already been filmed.
“In this video, you can only see a traffic police officer enter the store and then they take him out.
“They came and stole the cigarettes they left the first time and cash. I have not presented a second case. ”
