Manchester United have reportedly reversed their decision to appoint a director of football.

United have been looking for a director of football since the start of the season and former defender Rio Ferdinand has been heavily linked with the role.

However, according to The Athletic (via The Mirror), United have postponed their search and plan to rely on manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s pull to attract their transfer targets.

The change of heart isn’t likely to affect their pursuit of Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish with the MEN recently revealing that United have prioritized the 24-year-old over Leicester City’s James Maddison.

Solskjaer is a huge fan of Grealish and is believed to be the driving force behind United’s interest in the midfielder.

Grealish has been in superb form this season with seven goals and six assists in 26 Premier League starts and holds the keys to keeping his boyhood club in the Premier League.

United are expected to make a move for Grealish in the next transfer window and some reports suggest Solskjaer could be willing to spend up to £ 70million to prize him away from Villa.
