Pretoria – El Gautrain and its bus service return to their routes starting today in line with Level 4 blocking regulations.

Four bus routes have been amended to allow buses to stop at various hospitals that are close to the Gautrain alignment to help transport medical services personnel working in the hospitals.

In Pretoria, the bus leaving the station at CBD will now stop at Zuid Afrikaanse Hospital, Jacaranda Hospital, Mediclinic Medforum, and Louis Pasteur Private Hospital.

The bus leaving Hatfield station will stop at Pretoria Urology Hospital, Muelmed Mediclinic, Heart Hospital and Steve Biko Academic Hospital.

Those traveling to Joburg will also be able to access various hospitals from Park Station, including Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital and Park Lane Clinic.

Sunninghill Hospital will be accessible from a bus from Midrand Station.

Gautrain’s services were suspended in late March due to the blockade. Gautrain spokesman Kesagee Nayager said that according to government regulations, the trains would operate daily between 5.30 and 9.30 and from 15 to 19 hours.

This was to ensure that passengers could return to their homes before the nightly curfew begins at 8pm.

Monday through Friday, trains will operate at 20-minute and 30-minute intervals on weekends and holidays. The revised train and bus schedules will be available on the Gautrain website and app.

Nayager emphasized that “we have been very careful to implement numerous precautionary measures to ensure that we avoid the spread of Covid-19.”

These measures implied that everyone on trains and buses must wear face masks at all times.

Gautrain has purchased a batch of cloth face masks and will distribute them to customers for free. However, he cautioned that stocks were limited and asked that passengers be prepared with their own face masks.

Passengers are encouraged to apply physical distance measures at stations and on trains, buses and midibuses.

“We have applied floor decals at stations to help passengers maintain clear distances from other passengers. These are at least one meter apart from each other.

“Similarly, on board trains, buses and midibuses, certain seats have been cordoned off to allow physical distance. Passengers must remain seated on board the train, ”said Nayager.

Trains, buses, and midibuses will be cleaned and disinfected at regular intervals throughout the day, and cleaning staff will be deployed at all stations to clean and disinfect contact points, such as handrails.

All customer oriented staff will be evaluated for Covid-19. Staff will be screened for fever throughout the day and will be asked to stay home if they have any symptoms.

Alcohol-based hand sanitizers have been made available in all stations and on buses. Random passenger checks will be conducted at stations in collaboration with field workers from the Health Department.

Airport service will remain suspended until further notice.

The city of Tshwane has announced that it will continue to operate its bus services. City spokeswoman Selby Bokaba said the city would announce new hours of operation tomorrow based on the new level of closure.
