Liverpool are one of just six clubs capable of a Kevin De Bruyne transfer, according to reports. The Belgian could leave Manchester City.

Sport claims that a host of European giants are keeping at least one eye on De Bruyne. City’s Champions League ban – subject to appeal – throws his future up in the air, of course.

De Bruyne is now 28, in the prime of his career, and maybe unwilling to give up two years of European football to stick around at the Etihad.

That’s according to the player himself, in an interview with Het Laatste Nieuws in Belgium.

And should De Bruyne decide to leave the club, there are apparently just six clubs capable of making the move happen. On the continent, they’re Real Madrid, Barcelona, ​​Juventus and Bayern Munich.

But there are two closer to home – Manchester United and Liverpool. These six are supposedly the only ones rich enough to sign the player.

This one really isn’t going to happen. Liverpool might be able to match the financial might of most but that doesn’t mean they’ll actually do it.

De Bruyne is 28 and would, even with the ban, command an astronomical fee. You can’t imagine Liverpool paying that at his age, even for a player of his quality.

But even if we’re wrong about that, there’s next to no chance that City would sanction a De Bruyne to Liverpool transfer. He’s heading out of the country if he’s going anywhere.

It makes no financial or footballing sense to sell him to a Premier League club. Especially one who is already above you at the moment. They’d struggle to compete with Liverpool + De Bruyne.

And so, while this one is definitely nice to think about, we simply can’t imagine it happening.
