Roma legend Francesco Totti has spoken about Mohamed Salah’s transfer to Liverpool in 2017.

The Reds were launched by Salah in a club record purchase of £ 35 million with add-ons.

And the Egyptian King has proven to be an exceptional business, lighting up the Premier League and Europe ever since.

But Totti insists that there was no feeling that Salah “abandoned” Roma, and instead highlights the situation the Italian club was in at the time.

Speaking in a live Instagram interview as quoted by Goal, Totti said: “He [Salah] did not abandon us [Roma].

“At that time the company was in crisis. It was not he who left, let’s clear things up.”

Speaking last year, Totti made his feelings about Salah clear and insisted that the forward had joined the right team with his move to Anfield.

Totti said: “Honestly, I am very sorry for every player who left the team because when you stay with someone day after day you can understand what kind of person he is.”

“So this happened with Salah, with Alisson and other players who left Rome.

“It is normal at that time that you feel very bad, but with Momo I had a particular relationship.

“In fact, every time he played and scored with me, he always told me he felt like a different player because he had fun playing with me and he liked the way I put him in front of the goal with my assists.”

“He is an exceptional person and a true man who gave a lot to the club. But in the end, unfortunately, you have to make decisions and you have to respect him.”

“I think he made the right decision to go to Liverpool because they are one of the most important clubs in Europe.”

“They have won a lot of trophies, so a top player like him should play for a top club like Liverpool.”

Totti added: “We are still in contact by message and I am very happy to say that I met a great player and a great person.”
