DStv comes under fire
DStv satellite station has come under fire from disgruntled customers in South Africa who want the station to give back to the community. Since then, more than 150,000 people have signed an online petition asking the pay TV provider to reduce its prices for South Africa.
Subscribers argue that in light of the national coronavirus-induced blockade, the MultiChoice-owned broadcaster should give loyal customers a break by lowering prices. They also highlight that only last year, DStv reduced its prices for other African countries but did not extend the offer to South Africans.
The online petition at change.org was started last week by Sifiso J Gwala. In launching the petition, Gwala wrote:
“DSTV lowers prices for the rest of Africa except South Africa and now this. Here #DstvMustFall is taken for granted “
In 2019 DStv lowered prices in several African countries such as Kenya and Nigeria. South Africans are now demanding that DStv extend the same courtesy to them because they are suffering from the coronavirus-induced blockade.
Some of the people who supported the petition wrote:
Prices must drop and we must get new content. In addition, we must choose which channels we want.
Prices are too high, I can’t afford it
DStv has yet to respond to the online request that appears to be gathering momentum. At the time of publication, the petition had just over 152,000 signatures and counting. You can also add your signature if you feel so convinced about the problem.
