Jesse Lingard and Scott McTominay have combined to name their all-time academy Manchester United XI, but surprisingly they sidelined Marcus Rashford.

With the Premier League season currently suspended in the midst of the coronavirus crisis, both players and fans have been forced to get their dose of football differently.

And one of the most popular ideas that came up during the blockade is the social media trend that has seen Premier League stars name their best XIs.

This time, the pair of United Lingard and McTominay have scoured the ranks of the Red Devils Academy to choose their all-time starting lineup.

Selecting their team during an appearance on the club’s official UTD podcast, the pair chose David Gaskell, who starred in United in the 1960s, behind the scenes.

Their defense consisted of several familiar faces, with Gary Neville in the back while Wes Brown and Jonny Evans formed a central defense association.

And there was also a current star on the back, with Brandon Williams making the cut on the left side.

The pair opted for a three-man midfield comprised of David Beckham, Paul Scholes and Paul Pogba.

Explaining his decision to include Pogba, Lingard said: “He always wanted to go back to United. He also won the World Cup, which is the cherry on top. “

Directing attention to the attack, George Best and Ryan Giggs were flying while Lingard and McTominay went for the legendary Sir Bobby Charlton as their sole striker.

The decision meant that Rashford had to settle for a place among the substitutes, along with Phil Neville, Michael Clegg, Nicky Butt and Darren Fletcher.

Speaking of Rashford’s absence, McTominay said, “Marcus will not be happy with you, Jess. I am not getting involved!”

“I think Marcus will be disappointed, but when he wins the Premier League, he can go in.”
