DURBAN – KwaZulu-Natal Prime Minister Sihle Zikalala accused the Democratic Alliance (DA) in the province of spreading false news after the party filed a criminal complaint against him for violating blockade regulations.

Zikalala held a Freedom Day event at Clairwood Hospital in Durban on Monday.

While the media invitation said the event was organized to honor front-line workers, Zikalala said she visited the hospital to deliver face masks and assess her readiness in fighting COVID-19.

The KwaZulu-Natal district attorney said the Zikalala event was a mini-rally and violated the National Disaster Management Law.

While those gathered could be seen practicing social distancing and wearing face masks, the prosecutor said the event should not have taken place.

KZN party leader Zwakele Mncwango: “We believe that the Prime Minister was negligent in his actions and that he must account for that. The President was quick to act against Minister Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams and can also act as ANC President” .

Zikalala insisted that there was nothing wrong with her visit to the hospital.

His spokesman Lennox Mabaso: “His engagement in no way qualifies as a rally contemplated in section 1 of the regulations, as it was not sports, entertainment, recreational or religious or for counseling purposes. This was a normal course of the Prime Minister. in the provincial command council. “

Meanwhile, the Nehawu union also criticized Zikalala for organizing the event.
