The Tesla Model Y is not immune to flaws and this video review reveals exactly that. It seems that Tesla’s build quality is still problematic. Should a new car have all these problems?
The answer is no and most of the time Tesla will fix minor issues with Model Y for free, but a better solution would be stricter quality control to detect problems in cars even before they are delivered to buyers.
Starting with the first 3 models, Tesla built a reputation for questionable build quality. Paint issues, uneven panel gaps, missing screws / bolts, and a host of other issues appeared on the Model 3.
The idea was that by the time the Model Y arrived, Tesla would solve all these little problems and deliver perfect or near-perfect cars. However, that does not appear to be the case, as we have noted here. And now this new video adds more to the issue of Tesla build quality and Model Y issues.
We must bear in mind that the Model Y presented in the video is one of the first sold in the US. However, some problems include:
- Rear light condensation
- Uneven panel gaps
- What appears to be an incorrectly placed backup panel
- Misaligned window trim moldings
- Variable hood gaps
- The tire trims are very misaligned
- Tailgate sticks as you get up
- Non-operative unlock for rear seat
- The rear seat will not re-raise without flattening a panel that is not positioned correctly
- Misalignment of the trim inside the front door
Add it all in and those are a lot of problems, so should you wait to buy a Model Y until Tesla has fixed all the initial bugs? Could or could fully inspect the car before receiving delivery.
The problem is that for $ 70,000 you would expect stellar build quality and that’s what you should be getting, so take your time buying a Model Y to make sure it’s ready.
