CAPE TOWN – An Eastern Cape serial rapist was sentenced to seven life sentences.

The Bisho High Court also sentenced Malibongwe Ncokolo, 44, to 300 years in prison on Friday.

Ncokolo was arrested in June 2017.

The court found that Ncokolo had repeatedly raped girls and women from 2014 until his arrest.

Twelve of the 22 survivors are minors between the ages of 9 and 15.

Ncokolo was arrested after he tried to rape a 14-year-old girl in June of this year.

The court heard that the girl managed to kick Ncokolo with both feet to the chest, causing the convicted rapist to roll down a steep slope.

The teenager managed to escape and ask for help.

Ncokolo fled the scene, but community members arrested him a day later at his home, where he was arrested by the police.

Laboratory test results linked Ncokolo to several rape cases in the Mdantsane area.
