566 more deaths from Covid-19 and more than 12,710 new SA infections

Johannesburg – Health Minister Zweli Mkhize announced more than 12,710 new infections and 566 more deaths related to Covid-19 on Wednesday night.

This brings South Africa’s Covid-19 infections to more than 1.3 million infections since March, with a death toll now at 38,854 virus-related deaths.

The number of recoveries in the country stands at more than 1.1 million recoveries, which means that there is currently a recovery rate of around 84.7%.

Mkhize said they had now screened more than 7.7 million people in the public and private sectors, with more than 62,000 tests performed in the last 24 hours.

The Eastern Cape province has the highest number of deaths, with 9,716, followed by the Western Cape with 9,454, Gauteng, with 7,137, and KZN, with 6,890, has the highest number of deaths in the country.

Of the last 566 deaths, Mkhize said the majority of those killed came from KZN, the Eastern Cape and the Western Cape.
