It was a surreal moment for Shudufhadzo Musida, 24, on Saturday night when she was crowned Miss South Africa 2020.

“It feels amazing,” Musida said after the event. “It feels surreal because the whole time, all I could think was’ Oh my God, everyone in my town is watching! Everyone at home is watching. “

The place you call home

Musida hails from Ha-Masia in Limpopo, a town located in the municipality of the Vhembe district.

A BA student with honors

He holds a Bachelor of Social Science in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from the University of Pretoria, and is currently doing his Bachelor of Honors in International Relations at the University of the Witwatersrand.

Family life

Miss SA’s mother Thandi is a real estate agent and has a 13-year-old sister, Zwonka.

A woman who firmly believes in female empowerment

In her acceptance speech for Miss South Africa, Musida said, “It took a whole town to get here and I would like to thank you all for being my town.

“I am here today as your Miss South Africa with immense pride and joy to represent such a beautiful nation, one of the first Venda women, but certainly not the last, to become Miss South Africa.

“I am here as an advocate for women’s and children’s educational and economic empowerment and mental health awareness, and I am honored to be an ambassador for this beautiful nation.

The supreme prize

Musida will receive R1 million in cash, as well as another R2 million in sponsorships and prizes, including the use of a luxury apartment in Sandton and a Mercedes-Benz cabriolet for one year.

For the first time in the history of the Miss South Africa pageant, Musida, as well as its finalists, Thato Mosehle and Natasha Joubert, will represent the country in the three most prestigious pageants in the world.

Previously, the Miss South Africa Organization sent a representative to both Miss Universe and Miss World, but now it will also present a candidate for Miss Supranational.
