CAPE TOWN – Taxi violence has broken out in parts of Cape Town.
The police taxi task force is investigating another shooting, the second in the city in less than 24 hours, in which five people were killed in Nyanga.
Three others were injured in that attack.
Police said seven of the victims were sitting in a car Monday night when the suspects opened fire on them at the Nyanga taxi rank.
Police novel Potelwa said the motive was likely related to persistent tensions in the taxi industry.
“Detectives from the taxi task force are investigating a shooting incident that occurred at the Nyanga terminal on Monday night. Since then, the police have stepped up the deployment and identified potential hot spots.”
Just hours earlier, the travelers were sent running for cover when gunfire broke out on the deck of the Cape Town station.
Six people were injured and an arrest was made minutes later.
A second suspect is now behind bars.
It is not clear at this stage if these attacks are related.
