PRETORIA – Five suspects, four women between the ages of 27 and 42 and a 32-year-old man, were arrested in Pretoria for the murder of Prince Lethukuthula Zulu, 50, who was killed in Gauteng earlier this month.

The spokesman for the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Gauteng, Brigadier Mathapelo Peters, said the five suspects were arrested Friday night.

“Is [arrest] arises as a result of a meticulous investigation and hard work by the provincial investigation team who, since the incident at Honeydew SAPS was reported about two weeks ago, was able to gather bits of information that saw the initial investigation file changed to a murder case, ”Peters said.

“SAPS forensic scientists removed critical evidence from the crime scene that could easily have been missed. The evidence processed helped the investigation team establish a possible link between the suspects and the crime. “

The prince was the eldest son of Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini and Queen Sibongile MaDlamini. He was found dead at his Northwold home in Johannesburg. Prince Lethukuthula was next in line to the Zulu throne.

Peters said the suspects were in possession of various property stolen from the murdered prince.

“During the arrest, one of the suspects was found in possession of different substances and these were seized for further investigation due to the possibility that the deceased and his business partner had been drugged before they stole cash and other objects of value of your place. Several items suspected of theft were seized from the suspects’ residences. “

He said the investigation was continuing as police hoped to uncover more evidence to build “a strong case that can be upheld in court.”

“The investigation could also help establish whether the suspects could have committed previous similar crimes in which the victims were drugged and robbed. At this point, the suspects face a murder and robbery charge, ”Peters said.

“The suspects are expected to appear in Randburg Magistrates Court on Monday, November 23, 2020.”

Police initially opened an investigation file when security guards found her body at her home in the Graceland residential complex in Northwold.

Lethukuthula’s business associate friend was apparently found sleeping in another bedroom in the house when the guards discovered the murder.
