The Western Cape registered 948 new cases in the last 24 hours.
Western Cape Prime Minister Alan Winde warned that one of the measures discussed at a meeting on Friday was a “mini-blockade,” which would be a last resort that the province would consider if the health system were under stress.
“As we approach this vacation and tourism season, I appeal to everyone to be safe, follow the golden rules, and avoid close 3C contact, confined spaces, and crowded places. This will allow us to protect to the vulnerable and support jobs and our economy at the same time. “
More than 62.06 million people are reported to be infected by the new coronavirus worldwide and 1,450,479 have died, according to the latest Reuters tally.
