The new BMW M4 is the most popular German car at the moment. So don’t be surprised if you are constantly trying to get their attention. And what is the best type of content for an advanced sports coupe? Drag racing, of course, the ultimate bragging tool.
After comparing the M3 sedan to an RS4 wagon, Carwow magazine compared the bright yellow M4 Competition to an RS5 and the Mercedes-AMG C63 S, all three with coupe bodywork. This is something we have already seen, but the result is somewhat different.
In the first two races, the Audi RS5 does dominate the other two. It is the only one currently offered with all-wheel drive, so it accelerates faster, especially in wet conditions. This is still a bit surprising, considering that the car has the smallest engine and is below its rivals by about 60 hp.
To be a bit more precise, the C63 S makes 503 horsepower with a 4.0-liter biturbo V8. The M4 Competition does the same with its upgraded 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline 6-cylinder engine and the Audi has 444 hp from a 2.9-liter V6.
But in the third race, Mat Watson manages to get the perfect M4 throw and win. When xDrive is finally added, the Bimmer will easily become the fastest in its class and should remain so, as the RS5 and C63 will be scaled down or ceased to exist for years to come.
Overall it’s still an inch game, continuing with rolling races and brake tests. Weight really seems to affect them, to the point where a Tesla Model 3 really is in the same league. In fact, that will be the biggest thorn in the rear of BMW. But overall, fans of the brand should be very happy with the way the M4 came out. And if you want, now there is an all-electric alternative, the i4.
