JOHANNESBURG – The Proteas’ first International One-Day Match (ODI) against England in Newlands was postponed on Friday after a South African player tested positive for COVID-19.
The player becomes the third to contract the virus after the team entered a bio-bubble in Cape Town to complete the series of limited overs.
In a joint statement from Cricket South Africa and the England Cricket Board, they said that the first game will now take place on Sunday, December 6, 2020.
“This decision is the result of a Proteas team player testing positive for COVID-19 after the last scheduled round of team testing that took place on Thursday before the ODIs,” the statement read.
“In the interest of the safety and well-being of both teams, the match officials and everyone involved in the match, CSA Acting Executive Director Kugandrie Govender as well as ECB Director General Tom Harrison agreed to postpone the first game to Sunday ”.
As a result of the postponement, the tour dates are modified as follows:
- Sunday, December 06, 2020 – 1st Betway ODI, Eurolux Boland Park, Paarl (day match)
- Monday, December 07, 2020 – 2nd Betway ODI, Six Gun Grill Newlands, Cape Town (day-night match)
- Wednesday, December 09, 2020 – 3rd Betway ODI, Six Gun Grill Newlands, Cape Town (day-night match)
