Cape Town – Police arrested a 14-year-old boy along with two accomplices for kidnapping and robbing a driver who was calling by email at Browns Farm, Philippi.

According to a police statement, the three suspects had requested a ride on the e-hailing platform with the intention of robbing and kidnapping the driver once he arrived at Browns Farm.

Police spokesman FC Van Wyk said: “When the driver arrived, his vehicle was hijacked and his cell phone was stolen. The vehicle was found parked at a residence on Vukuthu Street in Browns Farm. A suspect was arrested and a new interrogation led to the arrest of the other two accomplices. “

The three suspects are scheduled to appear before Athlone Magistrates Court once they have been charged.

Also at Browns Farm, police arrested a 17-year-old suspect Monday night after they found him in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

The suspect was detained by a police patrol responding to shots at a residence on Mlonji Street.

“Police patrolling the area rushed to a residence on Mlonji Street after hearing shots. As they approached, one of the two suspects who was armed came out of the house, pointed a firearm at the police and fired. The suspect then dropped the firearm he was carrying and tried to hide. Police responded and arrested the 17-year-old suspect for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

“A further investigation revealed that the suspect and his accomplice had just robbed the occupant of the house and his friend when the police heard the shots. The suspects had met the two victims while they were walking down Mlonji Street and forced them into the courtyard, before proceeding to search and rob them, ”said Van Wyk.

In another incident, police arrested two suspects in Camps Bay on charges of possession with intent to smuggle narcotics.

Van Wyk said the suspects were arrested at Brighton Court after the facility was monitored for a period of time on suspicion that one of the suspects had been dealing drugs with the intention of distributing them.

“We suspect that one of the suspects could be linked to a farm in Stellenbosch where he grows dagga. The second suspect was also arrested when officers entered the apartment where drugs worth an estimated R250,000 were seized, ”said Van Wyk.
