A series of Witcher prequels, Blood Origin, will arrive on Netflix


Earlier this year, Netflix announced that development had begun in an anime film set in the world of its hit series. The Wizard. Now, the streaming giant is doubling down on Witcher content in the form of a limited six-part series and live action called The Witcher: Blood Origin.

Blood origin it will be a series of prequels, taking place in “an elvish world” 1,200 years before the events of The Wizard. The series will explore the origins of the first Witcher, as well as the events that fused the worlds of monsters, men, and elves.

The new show will be headed by Declan de Barra, with The Wizard showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich acting as executive producer and author of the books, Andrzej Sapkowski, as creative consultant.

“A question has been burning in my mind since the first time I read the books of The Witcher,” said de Barra. “What was the elven world? really like before the cataclysmic arrival of humans? […] The Witcher: Blood Origin It will tell the story of the Elven civilization before its fall and, most importantly, reveal the forgotten story of the first Witcher.

There’s no set date yet for when the new series will premiere, but the series will be shot in the UK.
