A woman was arrested and charged with assault after she hit an American Airlines employee who burst her on board a connecting flight because she was not wearing a face mask, NBC News reported.

An American Airlines spokeswoman Curtis Blessing told the news outlet that the woman, Yolanda Yarbrough, did not face the airline following guidelines on a flight from Los Angeles to Phoenix.

According to the report, Yarbrough landed at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport when an employee told her she could not go on her connecting flight to Las Vegas because she did not have a mask.

Blessing told NBC News that Yarbrough “became irate.” Phoenix police told the network that Yarbrough punched the employee in the face with her hand.

Yarbrough has been banned from future flights by American Airlines while the incident is being investigated, according to Blessing.

Major U.S. airlines began to cultivate on customers who refuse to wear masks and adhere to face-coverage guidelines. Last month, American Airlines stepped up its requirement for face masks on its flights.

“Because of security risks of asymptomatic COVID-19 transmission by individuals without face mask, all customers must wear face mask from the moment they enter their departure airport and not remove it until they leave their arrival airport,” the airline wrote in a July press release.
