Tuolumne County Public Health Updates
-
The vast majority of cases. that we are seeing are not connected to previous cases, and the source of infection is often unknown. As a reminder, Tuolumne County is experiencing community transmission, which means that we may not be able to identify where a person acquired the virus, and we may not be able to identify all contacts. We rely on those we contact, including individuals and employers, to share information to the best of our ability so that we can identify and contact others who may have been exposed. This is done in an effort to protect the public and curb the spread of COVID-19. If you think you have been exposed to a positive case, please call our call center at 533-7440. People must be vigilant in taking preventive measures to protect themselves in all situations. Stay 6 ‘away. Wear a face covering. Wash your hands.
- The free state testing site is open at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds Tuesday through Saturday from 7 am to 7 pm Appointments can be scheduled in advance at: https://lhi.care/covidtesting
- Wondering about face shields? People who are exempt from wearing a face mask due to a medical condition, who are employed in a job that involves regular contact with others should wear non-restrictive clothing. alternative, as a face shield with a curtain on the bottom edge, as long as its condition allows. This is how it looks. Wearing a face shield without an apron or wearing a smaller partial shield is inappropriate, as it still allows the drops to escape from the wearer.
They should only be worn by those who comply with the state medical exemption and the CDC does not recommend the use of face shields for normal daily activities or as a substitute for cloth face covers. A link to the state face coverage document is here. More useful information on fabric face liners: https://covid19.ca.gov/masks-and-ppe/ - With respect to antibody testing, Public Health cannot speak to the accuracy of the tests offered by commercial laboratories and we are not currently recommending the tests. People should contact their healthcare provider to determine if testing is recommended. It is important to note that the relationship between the presence of antibodies and immunity is currently unknown. This means that if a person tests positive for antibodies, it does not necessarily mean that the person is immune to COVID-19. It is unknown whether people who test positive for COVID-19 are at risk of infection. Furthermore, antibody tests have not been shown to definitively diagnose or exclude SARS-CoV-2 infection.
It is important for people to follow prevention guidelines to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, which include:
- Practice physical distancing at all times. Keep a 6-foot space between you and others who are not part of your home. Stay in the bubble of your home!
- Wear a face covering in public.
- Wash your hands well and often.
- Avoid meetings of any size with people who are not part of your home.
- Stay home if you are sick.
- Avoid unnecessary trips and limit your outings to essential tasks.
