A Florida police officer was shot dead while issuing a warrant, a “suspect in a gun battle,” the chief said.

Authorities say Florida police shot and killed a man trying to kill Saturday, then a suspected officer opened fire on officers.

Dayton Beach Police Chief Craig Kripri told reporters that the officer was struck in his bullet-proof vest and suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. Another officer broke down during the shooting and injured his head and neck. According to Capri, both officers were in “great spirits” at the hospital, and were expected to recover from their injuries.
