On Thursday, Governor Gary Herbert will mark the end of what he called a “circuit breaker” designed to increase the spread of coronavirus in the state where masks have been made mandatory in medium and high transmission areas, including most of southern and Utah.

David Heaton, spokesman for The Southwest Utah Public Health Department said it could take up to two weeks to see any effect of the new policy on coronavirus, depending on its gestation period, although there is still no way to determine the success of the new policy, or lack of success.

The situation is that we are in another boom that is bigger than summer and we tell people to be patient with the process,”Said Heat.

So far, Washington County has seen the largest increase in numbers, with five deaths and 420 new infections. In Washington County, the infection rate per 100,000 people now exceeds that of Nevada, California, Arizona and New York City.

In the last seven days, the rate of infection per 100,000 people in Washington Washington County has been 44.4, according to Utah Health Department figures. In comparison, according to the latest figures from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the same rate is 24.7 in Nevada, 10.9 in California, 14.1 in Arizona and 10.2 in New York City.

Unlike Washington County, the seven-day infection-rate average is declining in every other area of southern Utah except Beaver County, which was upgraded last week to a higher transmission rate with Washington County.

Southern Utah had the second-highest number of infections in a single day on Monday, with 119 new infections occurring Monday, with 32 local residents hospitalized with the virus since the outbreak began.

On Tuesday, 84 new infections were reported, while one local resident was hospitalized. Seven of the top 10 one-day total of new COVID-19 infections in the last 12 days.

Opposition / Party against planning / sanctions

While the numbers continue to rise, the promoter held a “quarantine party / protest” on Friday night, saying it was “against government control and sanctions.”

The promoter of “St. Gzai Quarantine Protest charges 15 15 per person for the event, which is considered alcohol-free, drug-free and socially free. Masks are recommended, but not necessarily – which goes against the governor’s orders that require wearing masks for events with 10 or more people in high-risk areas such as Washington County.

“It would be contrary to the guidelines,” Hitten said, although he added that small attendees who may be in “excitement” may not be more dangerous to themselves, but are more likely to spread the virus. Who are. “Young people will be less at risk, but if they infect older people, they are at risk,” Heat said.

While promoting the event as a violation of anti-virus controls, all attendees at the event are required to sign a denial without holding the promoter responsible for any illness or injury caused by the event, including the COVID-19 agreement.

Messages left to the promoter by St. George’s News went unanswered.

Initially, the promoter said on his website that the event would be in a building in Legacy Park, Washington County. However, several officials with Washington Washington County said that was not the case because they said the promoter was denied permission to hold the event there.

The website now says the location of the event will be announced on the day of the event, although guidelines still direct attendees to Legacy Park.
