2020 Wyndham Championship Odds: Webb Simpson, Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed Top the Board

After an exciting major who had an elite Leaderboard, things will slow down a bit for the Wyndham Championship in 2020, as most of the world’s best players take off this week in preparation for the FedEx Cup PlayEs, which begin Aug. 20 at the Northern Trust.

Even though a casual fan may not be as interested by the chances for the Wyndham Championship, experienced golf bettors know that this type of course often brings the best value, especially further down the board. JT Poston won this tournament at 100-1 in 2019 and it would not be a shock to see another winner in 2020 out of that range.

But it would also be no surprise to see tournament favorites Webb Simpson (+1000) win, either. Simpson has 11 career starts at this event, and has had top-five finishes in five of them, including each of the last three years, as he is away 2nd-2nd-3rd at that time.

The top of the board is a bit full as Simpson is followed by Brooks Koepka (+1100), Patrick Reed (+1500), Paul Casey (+1500), Tommy Fleetwood (+1800) and Justin Rose (+2500), which made some noise at Harding Park every past weekend.

Koepka is certainly a prize to watch as he battled in the final round at Harding Park, playing himself out of the controversy with a 4-over on Sunday. It is hard to imagine that bettors Koepka have supported this kind of odds after those performances. Recency bias is a real factor in betting.

The same logic can be applied to Fleetwood, who condemned himself with a 3-over show on Sunday in San Francisco.

After Rose there’s a bit of a drop-off in star power, with Harris English (+2500) bridge the gap between the top of the board and the center stand. The most striking player in this range is the mercurial Jordan Spieth (+3300), which went 73-68-76-67 to Harding Park. Your judgment is as good as mine on Spieth, but it’s a seductive number in this field.

Brendon Todd (+3300) has made a habit of popping on the Leaderboard lately and oddsmakers have taken note (that’s entirely their job). It suddenly consistent Si Woo Kim (+3300) has also seen its price plummet. Kim has been off the board for some time, but is now offered the same odds as Spieth, Billy Horschel and another South Korean in Sungjae Im.

A few months ago you would have jumped over this whole Iron Man Im at 33-1, but he’s been fighting it lately really and will probably not get much betting support, not even for this price.
