2020 WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitation Golf Picks, Odds, Predictions, Course Qualification, Best Bets at TPC Southwind

In what is probably the largest two-week stretch so far in 2020, the PGA Tour will go to Memphis for the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational before the PGA Championship will be in the spotlight next week in Harding Park. . This week’s uncut event will be a good (and hot!) Set-up for many of the best players in the world as they try to pack the last WGC of the year and the only major of the season in a 14-stretch day

Almost all the best players in the world (other than Tiger Woods) are on the field, which could be an incredible leaderboard on Sunday afternoon. And with your eyes looking towards next week, it will be interesting to see who is working on things for the first special of the year.

Let’s take a closer look at this week’s contest, with odds and bets provided through the William Hill Sportsbook.

Event information

Than: WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational
When: July 30 – August 2
Where: TPC Southwind – Memphis, Tennessee

Three things to know

1. Fighting superstars: Of the top 10 players in the world right now, I’m not entirely sure who to trust outside of Justin Thomas, Jon Rahm, and perhaps Rory McIlroy. Four of the 10 lost the cut in their last full tournament, and Dustin Johnson just retired at the 3M Open where he started with a 78. It’s time to start playing golf big with two majors in the next 50 days. And there are more questions when it comes to the top 10 players in the world.

2. No. 1 debut: For the first time in his career, Rahm will play an event as the number 1 player in the world. This is not necessarily significant as it relates to the event, but it is significant as it relates to Rahm because he is only the 24th human to be able to say this. He finished seventh in this event last season, and while he was a bit on the up and down after the PGA Tour restarted, he’s taking the most significant victory anyone has had in 2020. It wouldn’t be shocking to see him go back.

3. Exemptions from the US Open: Last week, Michael Thompson won the 3M Open and entered the US Open at Winged Foot, which he called his “favorite course in the world”. Runner-up Adam Long entered the US Open, as well as the top two finishers in the top 10 unqualified exemptions. The same applies this week, but perhaps even more interesting is that most of this field is already inside. That’s a great opportunity for guys, like Max Homa, who could sneak into the top 10 and play Winged Foot.

Field rating

He lacks Tiger Woods, but that’s all he lacks. Of the top 50 players in the world, 45 will play against Memphis this week. That’s an astonishing number, and one could argue that it’s the best Championship course of the season with no players so far. A name we haven’t seen is world number 34 Henrik Stenson, who will be playing for the first time since the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March. Grade: A +

Long Shot Betting

1. Matt Fitzpatrick will win (35-1): I had the round of the day (and maybe the week) Sunday at the Memorial and finished in the top five in this event last year the week after the Open Championship. Overall, I don’t love Matt Fitzpatrick, but I think this is a really good place for him.

2. The winner wins by two shots (+375): This is not a course that separates the herd like Muirfield Village did. Of the last 10 events in this course, eight were decided by one, two, or three shots (or went to a tiebreaker).
