Dustin Johnson looks to bounce back after a bad start at the Memorial

A year ago, Matthew Wolff became the third golf player in history to win an NCAA Individual National Championship and a PGA Tour title in the same year. Now, the talented 21-year-old returns to defend his title starting Thursday at the 2020 3M Open. Wolff bested Bryson DeChambeau and fellow colleague Collin Morikawa for a shot at TPC Twin Cities last year. To win again, Wolff will have to overcome another star-studded 2020 3M open field that includes Dustin Johnson, Tommy Fleetwood and Brooks Koepka.

Johnson, who won the Travelers’ Championship in June for his 21st PGA Tour victory, is the 10-1 favorite in the final odds of the 2020 William Hill 3M Open. Koepka, who has four major championships among his seven PGA Tour victories, is 12-1. Fleetwood, who has two second places in the majors since 2018, is 14-1. Before blocking your 2020 3M Open picks or entering any PGA DFS tournament at sites like DraftKings and FanDuel, be sure to check out the latest golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model on SportsLine.

The SportsLine prediction model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been on fire since the PGA Tour’s return in June. At the Memorial Tournament, McClure used the model to identify winner Jon Rahm (22-1) as one of his best bets from the start. He also had him as the projected winner for the weekend. The model also won the Collin Morikawa long shot at the Workday Charity Open. He identified him as a top contender from the start despite his high odds, and McClure recommended a straight bet for him to win 33-1. The model also called Bryson DeChambeau taking the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Using the model for their best bets, McClure returned a staggering +788 during the 2020 Charles Schwab Challenge, which included betting in the top five on Xander Schauffele with 13-2 and Collin Morikawa with 9-1.

The model was also extremely tall with 30-1 long-range winner Webb Simpson at RBC Heritage. The model had him in the top five from the start and McClure’s best bets included Simpson winning completely.

This same model predicted Gary Woodland’s first major career championship at the US Open even though he was not the favorite to enter the weekend. The model also rated Koepka’s historic victory at the 2019 PGA Championship, predicting that he would maintain his lead in the final stretch. In all, the advanced computer model has reached a whopping six majors entering the weekend, including two of the last three. Anyone who has followed their golf choices has seen some massive returns.

Now that the 3M Open 2020 field is locked, SportsLine simulated the event 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head over to SportsLine now to see the full projected ranking.

The best predictions of the 2020 3M Open model

A big surprise that the model asks for at the 3M Open 2020: Brooks Koepka, four-time main champion and one of the main favorites at 12-1, does not win everything. Koepka is still the number 6 player in the world, but he has had great difficulties this season.

He has only a top 10 and missed the cut at the Workday Charity Open. She finished 62nd last week at the Memorial, shooting 72 or more in all four rounds. While he remains one of the most powerful drivers on tour, his lack of driving precision is alarming, ranking 195th on the tour at 53.57 percent. He’s still getting the second-lowest odds on the field, but the model has identified him as a poor value, making him a favorite of the 2020 3M Open Tournament to avoid this week.

Another surprise: Erik van Rooyen, a massive 40-1 shot, makes a strong race for the title. You have a much better chance of winning than your odds imply, making it a target for anyone looking for a big payday. The 30-year-old South African burst onto the international scene by winning the 2019 Scandinavian invitation.

That victory earned Van Rooyen a place in the 2020 WGC-Mexico Championship, where he co-led the field on a par-four (3.77) and eagles (two) average score on the way to his first top-five result. Since then, Van Rooyen has accumulated that result to 21st place at the RBC Heritage Open and 22nd in the Memorial Tournament last week. According to the model, Van Rooyen should be part of your 2020 3M Open bets, a player with an upward lead.

How to Make 2020 3M Open Picks

Additionally, the model says four other golfers with odds of 25-1 or higher will make a strong run for the title, including an astronomical long shot that shoots above 75-1. Anyone supporting these underdogs could go big. You can only see them here.
