20 teens test positive for coronavirus after attending a NJ home party

A group of coronaviruses in Monmouth County in which about 20 young adults were infected with COVID-19 has been linked to a party in Middletown, authorities said.

“The cases may be related to a house party that allegedly occurred on or around July 11 on West Front Street,” the municipality’s health department said on its website, adding that infected people are between 15 and 19 years.

The local health department said it was following up on contacts to reduce the group’s spread.

However, “the response has been less than satisfactory, and many refused to answer our question,” the health department said.

“It is imperative that everyone cooperate on this potentially serious issue as we continue to fight this virus,” the statement said.

The health department urged parents who believe their children attended the party or participated in sports or other group activities where exposure to the coronavirus was possible, to be quarantined for 14 days.

“If they get sick, they should isolate themselves and contact (the) family doctor,” the statement said.
